Our Story
In 1860 my great grandfather and great grandmother moved from Germany to Cincinnati, Ohio with their 2 sons, Kirk and Gus and they started RAU Construction in 1860. My grandfather Herbert Julius Rau was the 3rd son born in 1903. Then they moved to Kansas City, MO. Gus and Kirk went to college and Gus became Business Manager of RAU Construction and Kirk became the architect of the company. Herb, my grandfather, joined the Union and worked his way to become a journeyman carpenter after highschool. After years in the company, he became President. The company did only commercial and industrial construction.In 1968, I spent a lot of summers in Kansas City alongside my grandfather and learned many aspects of construction and mainly in roofing. I mastered these skills after HS graduation in Santa Barbara and San Jose, CA as a Journeyman Roofer. Unfortunately, my grandfather passed in 1979.
I married and moved to Sonora, CA and opened RAU Roofing in 2004. Overall, I have been roofing for 50yrs.
